Privacy Policy

• Email address — used to create and sign in to your account, send sign-in and confirmation emails, and contact you about your account or support requests.
• Uploaded photos — a front-facing selfie (and optionally side/back angles) that you choose to upload so we can generate your hairstyle preview and, if you opt in, a face-shape analysis.
• Payment metadata — when you buy credits or a pass, the payment is processed by Stripe. We receive and store only non-sensitive payment details such as the product purchased, amount, currency, and transaction identifiers. We never see or store your full card number.
• Basic usage analytics — anonymised or pseudonymous counts such as sign-ups, generations, and purchases, used to understand how the app is used and improve it.

Photos you upload are sent to a third-party AI image-processing service solely to edit the hair in the image and return your preview. Your photos are not used for any other purpose — not for advertising, not for training datasets by us, and not for sale or sharing with anyone beyond what is needed to provide the service you asked for.

Uploaded photos and generated previews are intended to be kept only as long as needed to generate and return your result, and to power the in-app gallery of your own saved previews. You can request deletion of your photos at any time (see section 5).

Account information (email, credit balance, purchase history) is kept while your account is active. Uploaded photos are retained only as long as needed to provide the service and maintain your in-app gallery. If you delete your account, we delete your account data, uploaded photos, and associated records, except where we are required by law to retain limited transaction records (for example, for tax or accounting).

• AI image processing — your uploaded photos are sent to a third-party AI service to perform the hairstyle edit and the optional face-shape analysis. The photos are transmitted for processing only.
• Stripe — processes all payments securely. Stripe handles your card details directly under its own privacy policy; we never store your full card number.

We may also serve users outside New Zealand; your information may be processed in other countries where these providers operate, with appropriate safeguards.

You have the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of information that is inaccurate or out of date.
• Request deletion of your account, your uploaded photos, and your personal data. You can do this yourself from your account page, or by emailing us.

To exercise any of these rights, email hey@beforethecut.app and we'll action your request promptly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Before The Cut is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

We use essential browser storage and cookies to keep you signed in, remember your saved previews, and measure basic usage. We don't use advertising cookies. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings, though some features will stop working without it.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted in the app where practical.
